Germany’s Old Ghosts and Demons Are Back
Berlin’s covert missile moves and political belligerence risk plunging Europe into another devastating war
Germany Escalates the Proxy War Against Russia
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has been making increasingly belligerent statements, asserting that Ukraine is about to deploy new, German-assisted weapons with unlimited range—potentially targeting Moscow—within days.
Missiles in the Making: Where Were They Produced?
If these weapons are indeed missiles, Germany has evidently played a key role in developing long-range systems. Yet, given Russia’s ability to eliminate Ukrainian missile production facilities, it is unlikely these weapons were manufactured on Ukrainian soil. This suggests they were produced in Germany.
The Taurus Missile and Olaf Scholz’s Legacy
Any decision to co-develop long-range missiles would have been made under Olaf Scholz’s chancellorship. Germany’s only long-range cruise missile is the Taurus. Yet, unlike Friedrich Merz—Germany’s most anti-Russian chancellor since Adolf Hitler—Scholz publicly opposed deploying Taurus missiles against Russia.
How Have These Missiles Suddenly Become Operational?
The simplest explanation: Germany has already supplied Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Berlin and Kyiv appear to be crafting a narrative that the missiles were assembled—or even produced—on Ukrainian territory.
The Deception: Legal Loopholes and Public Misleading
Unless Scholz secretly authorized missile production in Ukraine or Pistorius pushed through a covert program behind Scholz’s back, the most plausible scenario is that Germany shipped prefabricated missile components to Ukraine, where they were completed under German guidance. This move circumvents legal constraints while misleading both the German public and Russian intelligence.
Taurus Missiles, Civilian Strikes, and Merz’s Dubious Claims
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the United States. Taurus missiles require American target coordinates to strike Russian territory, as GPS-based guidance is unreliable due to Russia’s ability to jam or manipulate GPS signals. Additionally, Taurus missiles contain U.S.-manufactured components, meaning they cannot be deployed without explicit American approval. Given these constraints, Merz’s visit to Washington was clearly aimed at securing the “green light” for German Taurus missile strikes on Russia.
Just days before Friedrich Merz appeared at the Oval Office in Washington, where he stated that "Ukraine was only attacking military targets, not Russian civilians," two bridges in Russia's Bryansk and Kursk regions collapsed, causing train derailments and civilian casualties. The Bryansk bridge collapse, reportedly due to a Ukrainian bombing, derailed a passenger train, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens, including children. Meanwhile, the Kursk bridge bombing caused the bridge to collapse, leading to the derailment of a freight train and injuring the train driver and crew.
These incidents are part of a broader pattern of attacks on civilian targets in Russia, including markets and journalists. Additionally, the bombing of civilians in the Donbass from 2014 to 2022, following the ousting of Ukraine’s democratically elected government, underscores Kyiv’s disregard for civilian lives. In light of these events, Merz’s statement is blatantly false.
A Dangerous Precedent: Germany’s Historical Pattern of Conflict
After two world wars—both originating largely from German soil—Merz now appears willing to provoke a third, potentially even more catastrophic, conflict with Russia.

Washington’s Role: Hardliners Push for Escalation
Senators Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham have been traveling across Kyiv and Europe, urging greater military pressure on Russia. They advocate for “kinetic” measures—meaning military escalation—and plan to introduce a new sanctions bill in the Senate next week.
Rising Tensions: Drone Attacks, Bombings, and Military Moves
At the same time, drone attacks on Russian air bases, bombings of railway lines in Bryansk and Kursk, and attacks on the Crimean Bridge—another civilian target, as Russia now uses rail transport to Crimea for military purposes—signal a deliberate escalation. The West has no objections to Kiev's attacks on civilian targets. If Taurus missiles are added to the mix, the conflict will escalate further.
Opposition in America: General Flynn’s Warning
A recent attack on a Russian airfield with nuclear-capable strategic bombers has sparked concern among the populist right in the US. Former national security adviser Michael Flynn condemned the attack, saying Ukraine had recklessly exploited long-standing transparency agreements (bombers must be openly stationed so they can be monitored by satellites) between the US and Russia, thereby jeopardizing nuclear stability.
Zelensky’s Dilemma: Political Survival Over Peace?
For Zelensky, who remains in power after his term expired and is ruling under martial law, an end to the war could spell political suicide. Elections would follow, likely ousting him from office, while rivals such as Klitschko, Poroshenko, and Tymoshenko—as well as far-right factions—are waiting in the wings to take his place. Financial support from the West would also likely dry up.
Germany’s Radical Shift: Diplomatic Fallout and Domestic Politics
Chancellor Merz's party, the CDU, is now calling for the expulsion of all Russian diplomats, which would effectively mean a break in relations. Instead of diplomacy, it is prioritizing massive rearmament and preparations for war against Russia. Furthermore, this move is likely part of a broader political strategy—possibly to ban the AfD, which stands for diplomacy and peace, by branding it a front organization for the Kremlin.
The Madness of War: A Final Warning
Which leads to the most chilling question: has Europe—and particularly Germany with its new Führer—descended into madness? The ancient warning remains relevant: “Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.”
In Germany, that madness is in full bloom.
